Overview
Deadsimple is a voice-first task capture app built for speed and privacy. The app is local-first and does not require a Deadsimple account, but some features rely on private iCloud storage and limited backend records to keep sync, sharing, subscriptions, and free-tier protections working.

Information We Process
- Voice transcripts: When you press-and-hold the capture button, Deadsimple records audio on-device and converts it to text using Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer. Raw audio is not uploaded by Deadsimple.
- Task and list data: Tasks, reminders, lists, and related metadata are stored locally with SwiftData. When iCloud is available for Deadsimple, this data may also sync to your private CloudKit container so it appears on your other devices.
- App settings: Speech language preferences, haptics, sounds, onboarding state, and similar settings are stored in UserDefaults inside the app and app-group container.
- Shared list records: If you create or join a shared list, our backend stores encrypted list event payloads, encrypted snapshots, share identifiers, pseudonymous user identifiers, and sync timestamps so shared lists can stay consistent.
- Security and quota records: To protect the free AI allowance and prevent abuse, our backend stores device attestation records, pseudonymous quota subject identifiers, and weekly usage counters.
How Voice Data Is Handled
Voice capture runs locally through Apple's audio APIs. After transcription, Deadsimple can send transcript text, your selected language, and the current date/time context to our backend service to extract task intent. The backend does not receive your raw audio. We do not intentionally store transcript text after a parsing response is returned, but transcript text is processed by our AI subprocessor to generate task results.
Third-Party Services
- Apple Speech Services: Provides on-device speech recognition. Usage is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
- Apple CloudKit / iCloud: Stores private app data for users who have iCloud available for Deadsimple, so their items can sync across their own devices.
- Deadsimple backend service: Processes transcript text, stores encrypted shared-list sync data, and keeps limited device-attestation and quota records needed to operate free AI limits and shared lists.
- Groq: Receives transcript or shared text through our backend to generate structured task output. Groq's handling of that content is governed by its own policies and agreements.
Data Retention
Local app data stays on your device until you delete it. If iCloud sync is available for Deadsimple, mirrored copies may remain in your private iCloud container until the deletions sync or you remove the app's iCloud data. Encrypted shared-list sync data, quota counters, and device-attestation records remain on our backend for as long as they are needed to run shared lists, enforce weekly limits, and prevent abuse. We do not run advertising analytics or build marketing profiles from your content.
User Controls
- Task management: You can edit or delete any task from the main list. Undo is available for the ten most recent changes.
- Transcript cleanup: If backend parsing fails, Deadsimple shows the raw transcript for manual editing before it is saved.
- Permissions: You can revoke microphone, speech recognition, notifications, and iCloud access through iOS Settings at any time.
- Server-side deletion requests: If you want encrypted shared-list data, quota records, or attestation records removed from our backend, email support and we will work with you to identify and delete what we can reasonably associate with your request.
Security
Deadsimple relies on iOS sandboxing, data protection, CloudKit private storage, and secure networking provided by Apple. All outbound requests to our backend use TLS encryption, and shared-list payloads are encrypted before they are stored on our backend. We also use device attestation to protect the free tier against automated abuse.
Children's Privacy
Deadsimple is intended for general audiences and does not target children under 13. We do not collect personal information from children knowingly. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, please contact us for deletion assistance.
