Overview
Deadsimple is a voice-first task capture app built for speed and privacy. The app is local-first and does not require a Deadsimple account, but some features rely on private iCloud storage and limited backend records to keep sync, sharing, subscriptions, and free-tier protections working.
Information We Process
- Voice recordings and transcripts: When you press-and-hold the capture button, Deadsimple records audio on your device. By default, Apple's Speech framework transcribes the recording; Apple may process speech data according to your device, language, and Apple settings. If you turn on Cloud Transcription, Deadsimple sends the recording to our backend and Groq to transcribe it. Transcript text is then sent through our backend to Groq to create tasks.
- Task and list data: Tasks, reminders, lists, and related metadata are stored locally with SwiftData. When iCloud is available for Deadsimple, this data may also sync to your private CloudKit container so it appears on your other devices.
- App settings: Speech language preferences, haptics, sounds, onboarding state, and similar settings are stored in UserDefaults inside the app and app-group container.
- Shared list records: If you create or join a shared list, our backend stores encrypted list event payloads, encrypted snapshots, share identifiers, pseudonymous user identifiers, and sync timestamps so shared lists can stay consistent.
- Security and quota records: To protect the free AI allowance and prevent abuse, our backend stores device attestation records, pseudonymous quota subject identifiers, and weekly usage counters.
- Purchase records: When you use Premium, Deadsimple processes App Store product and transaction identifiers, entitlement dates, environment, and a pseudonymous app account token to verify and restore access. Apple processes billing information; Deadsimple does not receive your payment-card details.
How Voice Data Is Handled
Voice capture starts on your device. In the default mode, Deadsimple sends transcript text, your selected language, and current date/time context to our backend to create tasks. If you explicitly enable Cloud Transcription in Settings, the app instead sends the voice recording to our backend and Groq for transcription and task creation. Deadsimple does not persist voice recordings or transcript text in its own backend after returning the parsing response.
Third-Party Services
- Apple Speech Services: Provides speech recognition in the default capture mode. Processing may occur on-device or through Apple services. Usage is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
- Apple CloudKit / iCloud: Stores private app data for users who have iCloud available for Deadsimple, so their items can sync across their own devices.
- Deadsimple backend service: Processes transcript text, stores encrypted shared-list sync data, and keeps limited device-attestation and quota records needed to operate free AI limits and shared lists.
- Groq: Receives transcript or shared text through our backend to generate structured task output and receives voice recordings when Cloud Transcription is enabled.
We require service providers that process Deadsimple data on our behalf to protect it consistently with this policy and applicable App Store privacy requirements.
Data Retention
Local app data stays on your device until you delete it. If iCloud sync is available for Deadsimple, mirrored copies may remain in your private iCloud container until deletions sync or you remove the app's iCloud data. Deadsimple does not retain voice recordings or transcript text in its own backend after a parsing response. Encrypted shared-list records remain until they are compacted, replaced, or deleted after a support request. Quota, purchase-verification, and device-attestation records may remain for the life of the installation and afterward until they are no longer needed for fraud prevention or are deleted after a support request. We do not use app content for advertising or marketing profiles.
User Controls
- Task management: You can edit or delete any task from the main list. Undo is available for the ten most recent changes.
- Transcript cleanup: If backend parsing fails, Deadsimple shows the raw transcript for manual editing before it is saved.
- Permissions: You can revoke microphone, speech recognition, notifications, and iCloud access through iOS Settings at any time.
- Cloud Transcription: This is off by default. You can withdraw consent to upload future voice recordings at any time by turning Cloud Transcription off in Deadsimple Settings.
- Server-side deletion requests: If you want encrypted shared-list data, quota records, or attestation records removed from our backend, email support and we will work with you to identify and delete what we can reasonably associate with your request.
Security
Deadsimple relies on iOS sandboxing, data protection, CloudKit private storage, and secure networking provided by Apple. All outbound requests to our backend use TLS encryption, and shared-list payloads are encrypted before they are stored on our backend. We also use device attestation to protect the free tier against automated abuse.
Website Privacy
The Deadsimple website does not load analytics, advertising, or behavioral-tracking scripts. Cloudflare processes standard network request data as our hosting and security provider so it can deliver and protect the website.
Children's Privacy
Deadsimple is intended for general audiences and does not target children under 13. We do not collect personal information from children knowingly. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, please contact us for deletion assistance.
